What are the four levels of home care packages?

Home Care Packages

A Home Care Package refers to a community support service for older adults who are in need of extra help with day-to-day activities but do not require the level of care provided by a Residential Home. There are several Home Care Packages on offer. They depend on your situation. Each case is unique so it’s essential to find out which type would be most suitable for you.

There are four levels of the Home Care Package, with Level 1 offering the lowest funding and care and Level 4 the highest. A higher level of funding means that you can hire a home carer or company to come into your home to help look after you in what may be routine tasks such as cooking, cleaning, and bathing.

The services funded by the Home Care Package are aimed to help the person retain or improve their quality of life. The level of aged care support you receive will depend on the assessment done by the Aged Care Assessment Team (ACAT).

What are the Level of home care packages?

Level 1 Home Care Packages

Level 1 Home Care Packages offers an amount of funding that assists you towards the cost of basic personal and domestic care. Level 1 Home Care Packages may also be referred to as Home Care Packages (HCP), Home Care Subsidy or Commonwealth Home Support Program (CHSP).

Level 2 Home care package

This Level 2 Home care package offers more support than the Level 1 package. In addition to providing basic care, someone may need assistance with all daily living activities, even performing some complex care tasks.

 Level 3 Home care package

This Level 3 Home care package is the most comprehensive. Depending on your need, you may receive assistance every day from carers who can help with a range of everyday living activities. This may include showering, bathing, cooking, cleaning, shopping, housework, transport, mobility and social participation assistance.

 Level 4  Home care package

This level is designed for people with high-level care needs. A package will be customised to every service user’s exact requirements, encompassing a high level of care. These could include complex care needs such as dementia or palliative care. The most versatile Level 4 packages are available for those who need 24-hour care provided through live-in carers.
