A Home Care Package: A guide to help you age at home longer

A Home Care Package is a really good way to get the in-home care you need to live longer independently at home. There are so many people who find it hard to cover the real costs of moving out of their homes, which is why getting this help from the Government is something that you should look into ASAP!

Who is Eligible?

To be eligible for a home care package, you must first be assessed by your local Aged Care Assessment Team (ACAT).

There are 2 types of packages:

1. Basic Daily Care and

2. Core Support.

What is Basic Daily Care?

Basic Daily Care is delivered for 2 or more hours per day and includes: Personal care help with showering, dressing and grooming Meals assistance with cooking, preparing and cleaning up meals Transport driving people to appointments, social outings and shopping Companionship someone to talk to, play games or go for a walk

What is Core Support?

Core Support covers basic care needs and assistance with: Mobility  help with using the toilet, showering, dressing and moving around safely Medication administration, prompting and prompting for appointments Routine help with housework, shopping and food preparation. Some home care packages have additional fees for other services such as: Equipment  such as a wheelchair Hydrotherapy for injuries Rehabilitation physiotherapy or occupational therapy Speech therapy – for communication difficulties Mental health for depression, anxiety and other mental health problems.
